Sunderland head to Molineux with history on their minds—they're chasing their first league double over Wolves since 1950. It's a tall order, but this Black Cats side has the grit to make it happen.
Currently sitting 12th with 46 points, Regis Le Bris's men are all but safe from relegation, needing just one more point to mathematically guarantee survival. But don't think they're settling. With European dreams still alive, Sunderland are only three points behind seventh-placed Bournemouth with four games to play. Every match now feels like a cup final.
After a humbling 5-0 loss to Nottingham Forest—following a wild 4-3 defeat at Aston Villa—Le Bris has stressed the importance of consistency. "Drop your standards by even ten percent, and you get punished," he warned. Despite those recent defensive lapses, the stats tell a different story: Sunderland boast the third-best rate of shots-to-goals conceded in the league, and they've kept clean sheets in four straight meetings against Wolves.
Good news for the traveling fans: winger Jocelin is expected to be available after missing several weeks with injury. Le Bris also confirmed late calls on Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo, both of whom could provide the game-changing spark Sunderland have lacked. "These players have the profile to threaten one-on-one and get in behind," the manager noted.
Without them, the Black Cats have sometimes struggled to unlock stubborn defenses. Romaine Mundle remains sidelined with a hamstring issue, while Reinildo Mandava is a strong candidate to replace Trai Hume at left-back. Up front, Wilson Isidor may start but has never completed 90 minutes this season—he's been substituted in all 11 of his starts. Brian Brobbey is expected to lead the line as the central striker, with a midfield trio of Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki, and Habib Diarra likely to hold shape. Chemsdine Talbi could also feature on the right flank.
Sunderland have won their last two league encounters with Wolves and will be desperate to avoid conceding four goals for a third straight match. A point would be enough to seal survival, but with European places within reach, the Black Cats will be playing for much more.
Sunderland predicted XI: Roefs; Mukiele, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo; Xhaka, Sadiki; Talbi, Diarra, Le Fee; Brobbey
