New Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall isn't wasting any time setting the tone. In a recent interview with WESH 2 in Orlando, the 43-year-old Texas native made it crystal clear that mediocrity won't be tolerated in Gainesville.

"The standard is championships at the University of Florida," Sumrall told reporter Daren Stoltzfus. "No excuses."

Sumrall, who took over after Billy Napier's 4-8 disaster in 2025, isn't just talking about wins and losses. He's building a culture rooted in competition, toughness, and accountability. The former Tulane head coach and Sunbelt Coach of the Year wants every part of the program—from players to strength staff to operations—to feel the heat.

"There's always a winner and a loser," Sumrall emphasized. He believes that if you're not competing every single day, you're falling behind.

And if you're looking for an easy ride? Don't bother showing up. Sumrall's message was blunt: "If you're soft and you like football, don't come here." He's looking for players and staff who are obsessed with the game, not just casual fans of it.

This offseason is a critical turning point for the Gators. After years of inconsistency and a brutal 2025 campaign that led to Napier's firing, Sumrall is tasked with restoring Florida's place in the SEC and on the national stage.
