Apr. 17—MOSCOW — The Post Falls Trojans' pitchers dominated the game, dishing out 15 strikeouts to the Moscow batters in a nonleague baseball contest held at the Moscow Community Playfields on a cold Thursday afternoon. The crack of the bat was a rare sound for Moscow on a cold Thursday afternoon, as the Post Falls Trojans' pitching staff delivered a masterclass in power. In a nonleague baseball clash at Moscow Community Playfields, the visiting Trojans racked up a staggering 15 strikeouts, a dominant display that powered them to a 15-7 victory over the hometown Bears.

Facing a formidable opponent from a higher classification, the Class 5A Bears showed early fight. After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, Moscow clawed back with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, knotting the score at 3-3 by the end of the third. It was a promising start that demonstrated their resilience.

However, the sheer firepower of the Class 6A Trojans proved too much. Post Falls broke the game open with a two-run third inning, followed by a decisive five-run rally in the fourth. The inning featured key hits like Gavin Wienker's double and Ayden Carrasco's RBI single, capitalizing on opportunities to build a commanding lead.

Moscow refused to go quietly. In the bottom of the fourth, they mounted a spirited response. Hits from Javan Barton and Benson Godfrey, followed by productive at-bats from Max Hain and Connor Perry, helped plate three runs and cut the deficit to 10-7. The rally showcased the Bears' offensive potential when they put the ball in play.

Ultimately, the story of the game was written from the mound. After Moscow's rally, Post Falls reliever Caden Perkins entered and shut the door, silencing the Bears' bats for the remainder of the contest. The 15 strikeouts were an insurmountable obstacle, highlighting the challenge of competing against elite pitching.

Despite the final score, Moscow coach Griffin Rod found positives in his team's defensive improvements and the promising moments from his young pitchers, like Huckleberry O'Donnell's effective knuckleball. "Too many strikeouts," Rod acknowledged. "We're a young group still cutting their teeth at the varsity level... but the team as a whole does a really good job of staying positive." For a developing squad, these hard-fought innings against top competition are valuable lessons in grit and growth for the season ahead.
