Holger Rune is gearing up for a comeback to the ATP Tour, with his return scheduled for May. The Dane has been sidelined since October after picking up an Achilles injury during the Stockholm Open semi-finals.

Holger Rune is targeting a high-stakes return to the ATP Tour this May, but his comeback timeline is sparking debate. The young Dane has been out of action since October, when an Achilles injury suffered during the Stockholm Open semi-finals required surgery.

Rune's absence has been a significant storyline this season. Widely regarded as part of the next generation of stars alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, his injury halted what many expected to be a breakthrough campaign. Now, he's set to make his return at the Hamburg Open from May 17-23.

However, his planned comeback has drawn skepticism from within the tennis community. Fellow pro Steve Johnson voiced serious concerns on the *Nothing Major Show*, stating, "This is awful... seven months from a torn Achilles, I don’t care if it was partially torn. Nobody has ever done it. We are in a sport where you better use your legs and be full go." Johnson questioned the wisdom of rushing back for the clay-court event.

Despite the external doubts, Rune sounds determined and optimistic. In a statement on the tournament's website, he said, "The hard work starts in Hamburg. I can’t wait to be back on clay... and to finally experience the atmosphere on-site again after such a long break."

The Hamburg Open presents a major challenge for his return. Rune has slipped to World No. 27 during his layoff and will face a strong field featuring the likes of Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime, with defending champion Flavio Cobolli also in the mix. The winner will earn 500 crucial ATP ranking points and a €415,140 prize.

All eyes will be on Rune's movement and confidence as he tests his recovery against top-tier competition, making his return one of the most intriguing narratives of the clay-court swing.
