Steelers Owner Shockingly Reveals Team Will Not Draft QB In Round 1

Art Rooney II told a reporter that the Pittsburgh Steelers will not be taking a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft.

In a move that cuts through the usual pre-draft smokescreens, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II has made a surprisingly candid declaration. Speaking to Action News 4's Andrew Stockey, Rooney stated the team will not select a quarterback with their first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Known for his straightforward approach, the 73-year-old owner left little room for interpretation. "I think I can tell you one thing, it's probably not going to be a quarterback," Rooney said. "But beyond that, it's wide open... we have 12 selections in this Draft. So we have an opportunity to really add some talent to the roster."

While the strategy makes football sense, publicly revealing it is an uncharacteristic break from the cloak-and-dagger tactics most teams employ this time of year. With the 21st overall pick and a dozen selections total, the Steelers are poised to address other critical needs.

This decision shifts the spotlight to other positions. Pittsburgh now appears to be in an ideal spot to snag a top-tier talent who falls to them, potentially the best available wide receiver, safety, or offensive guard. Prospects like Penn State's dominant guard Olaivavega Ioane or immediate-impact safeties Dillon Thieneman and Emmanuel McNeil-Warren could be in play, offering a chance to fortify the roster for another playoff push.

For a franchise built on stability and a strong defense, using their premier asset on a cornerstone player rather than a developmental quarterback seems like a sound, if unusually transparent, plan. The Steelers' war room just got a little less mysterious, but their path to building a contender just got clearer.
