The NFL Draft is heading to Pittsburgh, and the Steel City is welcoming back one of its most iconic legends. Steelers Hall of Famer Hines Ward is confirmed to be in attendance, bringing his signature energy and passion back to the town where he became a two-time Super Bowl champion and the MVP of Super Bowl XL.
Ward, currently the wide receivers coach at Arizona State, will be on site to support one of his top prospects, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. When asked about a preferred destination for Tyson, Ward’s black-and-gold heart shone through. "Wherever God wants him to be," Ward said. "Of course, I’m a little biased toward the black and gold... whatever team ends up drafting him, you’re gonna get a winner."
The former Steelers star also passionately defended Tyson against critiques of his physicality, offering a veteran's perspective. Ward suggested that such narratives can sometimes be part of the pre-draft process, advising his player that "anything they can do to get you at a cheaper rate, trust me they’re gonna do it."
Tyson, who caught 61 passes for eight touchdowns in just nine games in 2025, presents an intriguing prospect. With the Steelers holding the 21st overall pick and a noted need at wide receiver, the potential for a storybook Pittsburgh connection is certainly in the air. Ward's presence at the draft adds an extra layer of excitement, reminding fans of the legacy of toughness and winning he helped establish—a standard every new Steeler aims to meet.
