The Texas high school baseball playoffs are heating up, and we've got all the action from a thrilling night of area-round baseball. Two state contenders punched their tickets to game three, while another powerhouse swept its way into the regional semifinals.
In 5A Division I action, Aledo showed championship grit after falling behind early. Fort Worth Paschal jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bearcats refused to panic. Lucas Nawrocki ignited the comeback with a lead-off solo home run in the second inning, setting the tone for a resilient performance.
The turning point came in the fourth when Landon Barnes ripped a one-out triple. Nawrocki drew a walk to put runners at the corners, and Barnes scampered home on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2. Aledo took its first lead in the sixth when Dylan Duran crushed a two-run double, and Reid Huffman added an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh.
On the mound, Luke Sandefur delivered a masterful four-inning no-hit performance, allowing just two unearned runs while striking out four. Dane Browne closed the door with three solid innings, surrendering only a solo homer and a single before locking down the win. Aledo now awaits the winner of Amarillo and El Paso Bel Air in the regional semifinals.
Meanwhile, Mineral Wells found itself in a must-win situation against Decatur, and the Rams battled until the very last out. Hits were scarce for Mineral Wells, with two of their three coming in the final frame. The Eagles built a 3-0 lead through three innings, but the Rams showed patience at the plate, drawing walks and manufacturing runs.
Devin Russell sparked the offense in the fourth with a lead-off walk, advancing to third on a pickoff error and scoring on a passed ball. The Rams trailed 7-2 entering the seventh, but they refused to go quietly. William Hollifield singled and Kord Henry walked to start the frame. Braxton May delivered an RBI double, and Henry scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to three. Josh Petrie's sacrifice fly brought May home, but the rally fell short when Cale Kirtley's fly ball to right field resulted in a game-ending double play.
The series now heads to a decisive game three on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Weatherford High School.
Springtown carried momentum from a game-one victory into game two, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Remarkably, the Pines scored all three runs without a single hit, capitalizing on a hit by pitch, three walks, and two fielder's choices. The Yellow Jackets answered with two runs in the bottom half, setting up a dramatic finish.
With the series tied 1-1, Springtown will look to close things out in game three, while their opponents aim to keep their season alive. One thing is certain: Texas high school baseball continues to deliver unforgettable moments.
