The Dallas Stars are getting a major reinforcement just in time for their playoff opener. Head coach Glen Gulutzan has indicated that star defenseman Miro Heiskanen is expected to suit up for Game 1 against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday.
Heiskanen's potential return is a game-changer for the Stars' blue line. The 26-year-old Finn is a true workhorse, ranking fourth in the entire NHL in average ice time this season at over 25 minutes per game. His elite two-way play, evidenced by his 63 points in 77 games, is a cornerstone of Dallas's structure.
"We hope that we could have him for Game 1," Gulutzan stated. "He's getting better... very hopeful, though, on that front. Obviously, he's a big player for us."
While the news on Heiskanen is promising, the Stars' injury report is a mixed bag. Forward Sam Steel has already returned to action after a nine-game absence. However, top-line center Roope Hintz will be unavailable for the first two games of the series as he continues to recover from a lower-body injury.
As the intensity of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begins, having a key minute-muncher like Heiskanen back on the ice provides a significant tactical and psychological boost for a Stars team with deep postseason aspirations.
