The Stanford women's golf team is making history look routine. On Wednesday, the top-ranked Cardinal delivered a performance for the ages at their home NCAA Regional, shattering records and sending a clear message to the rest of the field.
Stanford finished at a staggering 42-under 810, winning by an incredible 38 shots over second-place Pepperdine. That margin of victory is the largest in NCAA Regional history, and the total score is the lowest ever recorded in a regional event. If this sounds familiar, it should be—the previous record for margin of victory was also set by Stanford, who won their 2021 home regional by 30 shots.
The Cardinal's dominance was absolute. All five golfers finished inside the top seven of the individual standings. Sophomore Andrea Revuelta continued her impressive run, winning her second straight regional title at 12-under par. Junior Paula Martin Sampedro took solo second place, while Kelly Xu (4th), Meja Ortengren (T-5), and Megha Ganne (T-7) rounded out a lineup that looked nearly unbeatable on their home course.
Now, the focus shifts to the NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa, where Stanford will chase its third national title in the last five years. The Cardinal have been a force in stroke play, winning that portion of the championship five years in a row, but have only two titles to show for it—thanks to the unpredictable nature of match play.
This season, Stanford has lost to only one team in stroke play, but has dropped a pair of match-play contests. However, they did capture the ACC Championship this year—a feat they missed out on last season—and Wednesday's win marked their seventh tournament victory of the year.
The mission at Omni La Costa is clear: find a way to convert that regular-season dominance into another national championship. With this kind of momentum, the Cardinal look ready to add another chapter to their growing legacy.
