In a major recruiting win for first-year head coach Tavita Pritchard, Stanford has secured a commitment from three-star defensive back Savoy Guidry. The New Orleans native, who plays his high school ball at Holy Cross, made his decision official after an eye-opening visit to the Cardinal's campus.
"I'm excited to be a part of something special under Coach Pritchard," Guidry shared. "This is his first signing class as a head coach. Once I got to see the place in person and meet with the staff and players, I knew it was the place I wanted to be."
Guidry, ranked as the No. 99 safety in the nation, had plenty of options on the table. Texas Tech, Houston, and Kansas State were among the programs vying for his pledge, but Stanford's unique combination of elite academics and high-level competition ultimately won him over.
"For me, it wasn't about the money or hype; I wanted to find a spot where I could be developed as a whole man and succeed outside of football," Guidry explained. "I also wanted to go to a spot where I can compete against the best athletes in the world, and still receive one of the highest educations possible."
During his visit, Guidry connected with current Stanford players and found a group of like-minded athletes with shared ambitions. "I was blessed to be able to hang out with some of the players and talk with a few of them personally. I realized how much we all have in common and how we all have the same common goals of expanding our knowledge and competing at a high level," he added.
For Stanford fans, Guidry's commitment signals a promising start to the Pritchard era—a player who values growth both on and off the field, and who's ready to help build something special in Palo Alto.
