After 13 remarkable years, a true pillar of Swansea City Women's success is moving on. Katy Hosford, the club's long-serving captain and midfield-forward dynamo, will depart this summer, marking the end of an era for the Swans.
Since making her debut in 2013 after rising through the club's development system, the 28-year-old has been synonymous with Swansea's golden era. Her trophy cabinet tells the story: four Welsh top-flight titles, two Welsh Cups, and an Adran Trophy. In 2023, as the team transitioned to semi-professional status, Hosford was handed the captain's armband—a testament to her leadership on and off the pitch.
However, the 2025-26 season saw Hosford step away from the game to welcome her baby, George. That time away, she says, has given her clarity. "This has been a difficult decision for me to make and it is one I make with a heavy heart," Hosford shared. "But I feel it is the right time for me to leave and to focus on spending time with my family."
Reflecting on her journey, Hosford added: "I have been so incredibly proud to play for Swansea City, and to see the amazing strides the team and women's football as a whole has made over the 13 years since my debut. We have come such a long way and I hope we are creating a legacy that can ensure that growth continues in the years to come."
Swansea Women head coach Yzzy Taylor paid tribute, calling Hosford one of the "most influential figures" in the club's history. "Her longevity and success underline what an important and inspirational person she has been for young footballers in south west Wales and beyond," Taylor added.
As Hosford turns the page, her legacy as a trailblazer for women's football in Wales remains firmly cemented. For fans and aspiring players alike, her journey from the development centre to lifting trophies as captain is a story of dedication, resilience, and heart.
