The stage is set for an electrifying IPL 2026 clash as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. With the sun blazing down on what promises to be a batting paradise, Cummins backed his team's fearless approach, aiming to post a formidable total and continue their impressive momentum.
"We'll bat first. Pitch looks good and it's very hot, we'll bat and post a total," Cummins said at the toss. "It looks nice and must be high scoring. The young guys have come in and been fantastic, and a lot of the stalwarts have really hit their stride. We've got over 220 all but one game, so everyone's found their rhythm playing that positive style we want."
The Sunrisers have been on a remarkable run, winning five consecutive matches, and Cummins emphasized the importance of staying true to their aggressive brand of cricket. "It's very unlikely we'll win every single game for the rest of the season, but we know this style works," he added. "Even if there's a little glitch, we'll just keep buying into that style."
Both teams made two changes to their lineups. For SRH, debutant Smaran Ravichandran steps in for an unwell Nitish Reddy, while experienced pacer Harshal Patel replaces Harsh Dubey, adding depth to the bowling attack.
On the other side, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane admitted he would have preferred to bat first as well, but expressed confidence after a reflective break. "Those breaks really helped us as a team, re-coupling and thinking about the things we did right and areas for improvement," Rahane said. "It's all about winning those small moments in this format. The game can change within an over."
Notably, KKR's star pacer Matheesha Pathirana remains sidelined, missing out on selection once again. With both teams eager to assert their dominance, fans can expect a high-octane contest under the Hyderabad lights.
