I’m not usually a guy who likes to use terms like "must win" during the baseball season. Obviously, if it’s a win-or-go-home game, I understand, but I’ve seen a lot of baseball teams lose games that their fan base deemed must-win, and they ended up just fine. With that said, the way this game was playing out, it felt like if Detroit wasn’t going to win this one, it might be a long time before they won another game.

In a game that felt like a make-or-break moment for the Detroit Tigers, Spencer Torkelson delivered a shocking RBI single that not only stunned the Blue Jays but also breathed new life into a struggling lineup. While I typically avoid labeling regular-season games as "must-win," the atmosphere surrounding this matchup made it clear: if Detroit couldn't pull off a victory here, the road ahead looked bleak.

The game didn't start with much promise. In fact, the first few innings were nothing short of disastrous. By the third inning, Detroit was already on its fourth pitcher—some of that was by design, but a lot of it came down to bad luck. The most concerning moment came when Ty Madden was hit by a line drive and had to exit the game. While we're still waiting for an update on his injury, the Tigers desperately needed someone to eat up innings. Enter Drew Anderson, who stepped up in a big way. His peripherals look solid, and while it's too early to say what his long-term role will be, it's clear Detroit will lean on him more as the season progresses.

One thing I didn't touch on in the video: the Tigers played error-free baseball tonight. Was it flashy? No. But this isn't a team built on defensive highlights—it's a team that needs consistency. And that's exactly what the fan base is clamoring for: competency. Despite all the injuries and roster shake-ups, the Tigers have shown that when they play clean ball, they're a different squad. They're now 15-6 in games without an error, compared to a dismal 5-19 when they make at least one mistake. That stat alone shows how close this team is to turning the corner.

With this win under their belts, Detroit will look to build momentum tomorrow. Casey Mize is set to return from the IL and take the mound for the Tigers, while the Blue Jays are expected to go with a bullpen day, starting lefty Mason Fluharty. If the Tigers can keep the clean play going, this could be the spark they've been waiting for.
