The Hub City Spartanburgers are heating up at just the right time. After a thrilling 6-2 victory over the Greenville Drive at Fluor Field, the 'Burgers have now won three straight games, taking a 3-2 series lead and improving to 12-13 on the season.
The Drive struck first, wasting no time in the bottom of the first inning. Justin Gonzales ripped a triple to the right-field corner on the very first pitch from Hub City starter Ismael Agreda, and Henry Godbout followed with an RBI double. Agreda, however, settled in to strand two runners, limiting the damage to just one run.
The Spartanburgers answered back in the top of the second. Quincy Scott led off with a single, stole a base, and came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Luke Hanson. That knotted the game at 1-1. Greenville starter Devin Futrell then found his rhythm, retiring 12 straight batters before walking a batter in the sixth. Danny Kirwin came on to close out the inning.
Agreda, meanwhile, found his groove after that rocky first inning. The right-hander worked around hits in the second and third before a clean fourth that included his fifth and final strikeout. But in the fifth, Agreda walked Gonzales and surrendered another double to Godbout. Gerardo Rodriguez singled to score Gonzales, putting the Drive back on top 2-1 and ending Agreda's night.
Anthony Susac came on in relief to face a bases-loaded, no-out jam. He responded like a veteran, striking out back-to-back batters to escape the inning—though the second punchout led to the ejection of Mason White for arguing. Susac stayed in for a scoreless sixth, keeping the 'Burgers within striking distance.
The comeback began in the seventh. Gleider Figuereo led off with a double to center, moved to third on a single from Yeison Morrobel, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Hanson to tie the game at 2-2. Then, in the eighth, Rafe Perich drew a two-out walk, stole second, and scored on a clutch single from Scott to give Hub City its first lead of the night, 3-2.
The Spartanburgers weren't done. They piled on five runs over the final three innings, turning a tight game into a comfortable victory. With their third straight win, Hub City is building momentum and proving they can deliver in the clutch when it matters most.
