Hunter Krainski isn't just a standout athlete—he's the heart and soul of the South River Rams baseball team. This senior two-way star recently earned the MyCentralJersey Readers Choice Player of the Week title, and it's easy to see why. With a blazing fastball, a disciplined bat, and an unshakable team-first mentality, Krainski has been instrumental in leading the Rams to the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division pennant.
Over a four-game stretch, Krainski was on fire at the plate, going 7-for-12 with 10 RBIs and six runs scored. But his defining moment came in a pivotal 11-6 victory over Piscataway that sealed the division crown. In that game, he went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and pitched a complete game, striking out nine batters. It was a performance that showcased both his power and poise under pressure.
Now in his first season with South River after spending his first two years at St. Thomas Aquinas, Krainski has seamlessly transitioned into a leadership role. His stats speak volumes: a .448 batting average (26-for-58), 23 RBIs, 27 runs, and 17 walks. He's also racked up 10 extra-base hits, including six doubles, two triples, and two home runs. On the mound, he boasts a 2.55 ERA with 44 strikeouts over 35 2/3 innings for the Rams (15-5).
"What has impressed me most about Hunter, besides being a great player, is his growth and maturity over the last year," said South River coach Mike Lepore Jr. "He's been a great teammate and leader for us and has adapted nicely into becoming a South River Ram. He contributes in all three aspects of the game—hitting, defense, and pitching."
As the postseason looms, Krainski's all-around excellence gives the Rams plenty of reason for optimism. Whether he's delivering clutch hits or shutting down opponents on the mound, this senior is proving that true champions are made of more than just raw talent—they're built on leadership, hard work, and a relentless drive to win.
