At the Ohio Cardinal Conference track meet on Friday, West Holmes' Maddax Graham proved that in the discus, it's all about the details. While raw power often grabs headlines, Graham's victory was a masterclass in technique—a reminder that the best throws come from a blend of strength and precision.

The meet showcased a full day of standout performances across multiple events. In the shot put, Waynedale's Gatlin Herman turned heads with a strong showing, while Wooster's Wylie Fuqua secured a second-place finish. Orrville's Tate Howell rounded out the podium with a third-place result in the same event.

On the girls' side, Norwayne's Haley Bittinger dominated the discus, taking home first place, while teammate Hannah Froelich followed closely for a strong second-place finish. Smithville's Kaitlyn Carr and Maryn Erdman also made their mark, winning the 1600 meters and 800 meters, respectively.

The sprint and hurdle events delivered plenty of excitement too. Wooster's Teagan Hafner cleared the competition in the 100-meter hurdles, while Norwayne's Kaylee Graham claimed victory in the 300-meter hurdles. Orrville's Bronson Rogers matched that feat on the boys' side, taking the 300-meter hurdles title.

In distance running, Orrville's Owen Lacy crossed the line first in the 1600 meters, and Smithville's Nigel Wenger showed his versatility with a second-place finish in the 1600 and a third-place finish in the 3200 meters. The field events also saw strong performances from Orrville's Maddie Kraft, who competed in both the high jump and pole vault, and Northwestern's Brooke Nolletti, who made her presence felt in the hurdles.

From the throwing circle to the track, the OCC meet was a showcase of technique, determination, and the kind of all-around athleticism that makes high school sports so compelling. For athletes like Graham, the message is clear: perfecting the fundamentals is the first step to standing on the podium.
