Jose Soriano is writing a new pitching narrative for the Los Angeles Angels, and he's this week's AL Player of the Week.

Jose Soriano isn't just having a good start to the season for the Los Angeles Angels; he's authoring a historic opening chapter. His dominant performance on the mound has earned him a well-deserved first career honor: American League Player of the Week.

Soriano's award comes as no surprise after a breathtaking first four starts. The right-hander began the year with back-to-back six-inning shutouts, setting a tone of pure dominance. He then carved up the Atlanta Braves lineup, racking up ten strikeouts while surrendering his first and only run of the season so far. He capped off his award-winning week by silencing the Cincinnati Reds over seven masterful innings, allowing just two hits and striking out another ten batters.

This incredible run has propelled Soriano to the top of the pitching leaderboards. He currently leads all qualified pitchers in the coveted "Triple Crown" categories with four wins, a microscopic 0.33 ERA, and 31 strikeouts. The numbers get even more eye-popping when you consider the history books: Soriano is now the only pitcher since 1900 to allow fewer than 10 hits and two runs over his first four starts while logging at least 25 innings.

For the Angels, Soriano's emergence as a bona fide ace couldn't have come at a better time. He is the first Angels pitcher to win a weekly award since Reid Detmers in May 2022, and his steadiness has been a cornerstone for a rotation seeking consistency. As the team returns home for a weekend series against the San Diego Padres, all eyes will be on Soriano to see if he can extend his remarkable run.
