The ACGC Falcons softball team is entering a new era. After graduating eight key seniors from last year's squad, head coach Brad Nelson faces the classic challenge of rebuilding while staying competitive.

Last season's 6-16 (3-11 in the Central Minnesota Conference) record highlighted a team in transition, and the departure of its core players amplifies that theme. The Falcons must replace monumental production, most notably from star Kendall Miller, a Class A All-State Honorable Mention who dominated both at the plate (.439 avg, .722 slugging) and in the circle (389 career strikeouts). Also gone is Brooke Schultz, who tied the program's single-season triples record.

With so much experience walking out the door, the reload effort will hinge on a young roster. The foundation rests on two returning junior starters: the versatile Brooke Johnson and Allie Simon, who will be crucial in the pitching rotation and infield.

Coach Nelson is optimistic about the new talent stepping up. Seniors Shawnta Ludwig, Mallorie Johnson, and Emma Ruter will provide leadership, while a group of underclassmen—including sophomores Kelsie Blom, Ava Burgmeier, and Libby Johnson, plus freshman Jayden Johnson—are expected to contribute immediately.

"We're hoping to reload," Nelson stated, embracing the challenge. In sports, every rebuild is an opportunity for new stars to emerge and for a team to forge its own identity. For the young Falcons, the 2026 season is all about growth, grit, and laying the groundwork for the future.
