Arne Slot has firmly shut down speculation about his future at Liverpool, expressing confidence that he will remain at the helm for the upcoming season despite a challenging campaign. The Dutch manager, who led the Reds to a Premier League title in his debut season, addressed the rumors head-on during Thursday's pre-match press conference ahead of Friday's clash with Aston Villa.
"I don't think I'm the only one making that decision, but I have every reason to believe I'll be Liverpool manager next season," Slot stated. "I'm under contract, and based on all the discussions we're having, that's my understanding."
Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League standings, Liverpool trails leaders Arsenal by 20 points—a stark contrast to last season's championship glory. The club's record-breaking £450 million summer spending spree hasn't yielded the expected returns, while a devastating blow came in July with the tragic death of Diogo Jota in a car accident.
Injuries have plagued the squad throughout the season, testing Slot's tactical flexibility. Despite these setbacks, a top-five finish would secure Champions League qualification, with Liverpool holding a four-point buffer over sixth-placed Bournemouth with just two games remaining.
However, frustration has been brewing at Anfield. Last weekend's 1-1 draw with struggling Chelsea was met with loud boos at full-time, and Slot's decision to substitute Rio Ngumoha drew sharp criticism from the stands. "I think the world has evolved to a point where if a manager or club doesn't have the best season, debate follows. That's the new reality in football," Slot reflected. "It's not for me to judge those who judge me—they're entitled to their opinions."
Looking ahead, the former Feyenoord boss has already promised a "different team next season" if the transfer window unfolds as planned. "We know where we're going on tour. Plans are in place, and discussions with the club about new players are ongoing—and I'm very much involved in that process," Slot confirmed, signaling his active role in shaping Liverpool's future roster.
