The Philadelphia 76ers' 2025-26 season may have ended with a sour taste, but the focus is already shifting to what's next. After a strong 45-37 regular season and a historic first-round comeback win over the Boston Celtics, the Sixers were swept in Round 2 by the New York Knicks. Now, as the offseason begins, one of the biggest questions is the future of veteran forward Kelly Oubre Jr.

Oubre, an 11-year NBA veteran, has spent the last three seasons in Philadelphia. This year, he delivered one of his most efficient campaigns yet, averaging 14.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting a career-best 36.0% from beyond the arc. For a player who once averaged 20.3 points per game with the Charlotte Hornets, this season was a testament to his adaptability and growth.

"I love it here, of course, but it's not my first rodeo," Oubre said when asked about his upcoming free agency. "I've averaged 20 points in this league and still found myself barely getting any contracts, right? But at the end of the day, man, I learned so much. The game of basketball has reinvented itself to me through different lenses and different eyes throughout my tenure here, and I'm forever appreciative for the opportunity to play for this city."

Oubre joined the Sixers in the 2023 offseason looking to reinvent his game and contribute to winning basketball. He did just that, becoming a key piece off the bench and a reliable floor spacer. His journey from being overlooked in free agency after a 20-point season with Charlotte to becoming a vital part of a playoff contender is a story of resilience and growth.

"Obviously, I don't like how it ended," Oubre admitted, reflecting on the early playoff exit. "I always say I like to finish where I start, and this is a bit sour for me. But at the end of the day, man, it's already written. God already has it written upstairs, and it's just gonna follow through. So, I hope I did myself a good service by being more efficient, slowing down and just playing better overall basketball, and just continue to grow as a human being and as a player. So it's already written, and we'll see where the chips fall."

For Sixers fans and basketball enthusiasts alike, Oubre's free agency will be one to watch. Whether he stays in Philadelphia or moves on, his journey serves as a reminder that in the NBA, it's not just about the numbers—it's about how you evolve and embrace the game's ever-changing demands.
