The New York Sirens' playoff heartbeat just got a lot louder. In a stunning third-period rally, they stormed back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Toronto, keeping their postseason dreams vividly alive with just three games left in the PWHL season.
After a tense, scoreless first period, Toronto struck first with a shorthanded goal from Daryl Watts. The pressure mounted early in the third when Ella Shelton doubled Toronto's lead, putting the Sirens' backs firmly against the wall.
Then, the comeback ignited. Denisa Křížová pounced on a net-front scramble, burying her first goal as a Siren and cutting the deficit in half. The momentum had officially shifted to New York's bench.
On a crucial power play with just over five minutes remaining, Maja Nylen Persson showcased incredible hand-eye coordination, batting a puck out of mid-air and firing it home from a sharp angle to tie the game at 2-2. The arena erupted.
The Sirens weren't done. Just over a minute later, Casey O'Brien provided the final, dramatic touch, deflecting a Nicole Vallario point shot past the Toronto goaltender to complete the comeback and secure a massive 3-2 victory.
Goaltender Kayle Osborne was a rock, making 24 saves to backstop the win, while Raygan Kirk stopped 26 for Toronto in a valiant effort.
Head coach Greg Fargo praised his team's resilience. "It comes down to their belief in one another and how hard we’re willing to fight together," Fargo said. "We showed a lot of resilience and stuck with it... They deserve all the credit.”
This gutsy win pulls the Sirens to within just two points of the final playoff spot currently held by Ottawa. With the regular season winding down, every shift, every period, and every ounce of that fight Fargo mentioned will be critical as New York charges toward the postseason.
