Imagine watching your team get thrashed 8-3 on home turf—a result that would normally send shockwaves through any club. For most, it might mean a coach on the hot seat or a full-blown crisis. But for FC Thun, that lopsided scoreline was just a footnote in a storybook season.

After five long years in Switzerland's second division, Thun stormed back to the top flight by winning the 2024/25 Challenge League title. And they didn't stop there. In a stunning turn of events, the underdogs brushed aside the favorites to claim the Swiss Super League crown—the greatest achievement in the club's 128-year history.

The celebration came with an extra cherry on top: qualification for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League. It's the kind of fairy tale that reminds us why we love sports.

The title was all but secured on matchday 32, when rivals Basel and St. Gallen both stumbled. But the official party had to wait two more rounds. And when it finally arrived, it came after an 11-goal thriller in front of their home fans.

The first half had everything: Young Boys drew first blood, but Thun quickly turned the tables to take the lead. Then the visitors flipped the script before halftime, and things got worse for Thun when goalkeeper Burki saw red in the 43rd minute. A second red card in the second half sealed their fate, and Young Boys ran riot.

Despite the historic 8-3 rout, Young Boys missed out on European football, joining Basel and Sion on the sidelines. Instead, St. Gallen (2nd) and Lugano (3rd) will carry the Swiss flag in the Conference League.

For FC Thun, though, the scoreline didn't matter. They lifted the trophy, made history, and proved that sometimes the biggest wins come after the toughest losses.
