Shrewsbury Town is shaking up its squad with a major roster overhaul, putting four players on the transfer list and releasing ten others as they look to bounce back from a 19th-place finish in League Two.
Veteran midfielder Sam Clucas, 35, and defender Tom Anderson, 32, headline the transfer list after solid but unspectacular seasons. Clucas netted twice in 40 appearances across the 2025-26 campaign, while Anderson logged 35 games at the back. Forwards Ricardo Dinanga and Callum Stewart, both returning from non-league loan spells, have also been told they can seek new opportunities.
The biggest name among the departures is captain John Marquis, 33, who scored six goals in 43 appearances since joining from Bristol Rovers in 2024. The striker is one of ten players released as their contracts expire, signaling a clear reset button for the club.
Joining Marquis out the door is former Portsmouth midfielder Anthony Scully, who contributed five goals in 35 games, along with Mal Benning, Harrison Biggins, Alex Gilliead, Nick Freeman, Jack Loughran, Isaac Godwin, Karsten Cairns, and Joe Morris. Left-back Benning, 32, had been a steady presence since 2023, making 21 appearances this season.
On a brighter note, defenders Luca Hoole and Josh Ruffels, along with midfielder Taylor Perry, are weighing new contract offers from the club. Retaining these key pieces could provide a foundation as Shrewsbury rebuilds for the 2026-27 campaign.
