The New England Patriots released Stefon Diggs earlier this offseason, but a recent not guilty verdict on charges brought by his live-in personal chef has sparked questions about a potential reunion. While the allegations weren't the primary reason for his release, they may have added to the uncertainty. The bigger factor? His hefty $26 million cap hit. Despite leading the team in receiving as a 32-year-old, the Patriots decided that price tag was too steep.

But here's where it gets interesting. With the offseason winding down, Diggs might find it tough to land a lucrative deal elsewhere. A cheaper, shorter contract could be his reality. Should the Patriots pounce if he's open to a team-friendly offer?

Earlier this offseason, Eliot Wolf left the door slightly ajar, saying he's not ruling out Diggs. However, a few key conditions would need to align. First, Diggs would have to accept a significantly reduced role. The Patriots invested in Romeo Doubs with a four-year deal and are expected to land A.J. Brown soon. That would make Diggs, at best, the third option—and he'd need to be paid accordingly.

Second, there's the question of Diggs's own desire to return. He's spoken highly of New England, and there's no apparent bad blood. But he's still a 1,000-yard receiver fresh off a productive season. It's natural he'd want a bigger stage and a more prominent role elsewhere.

In reality, a Patriots-Diggs reunion seems unlikely unless an injury reshuffles the deck. For now, both sides appear to be moving forward, but in the unpredictable world of the NFL, never say never.
