Brooks Koepka will be teeing it up with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this week.
The tournament is a vital one for Koepka, as a win would get him into Signature Events moving forward, and ensure that his exempt status on the PGA Tour runs through the end of the 2028 season.
The 35-year-old has played some good golf at times, since his return to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf.
Now’s the time for Koepka to ramp things up, though, and he should have a very good chance of winning the Zurich Classic, alongside his partner Shane Lowry.
Koepka and Lowry will join forces at the Zurich Classic this week after Rory McIlroy made it clear to his best friend that he would not be playing the event this year.
And both players will be hopeful of a much-needed victory in New Orleans.
The American and the Irishman addressed the media in New Orleans on Wednesday.
When praising Lowry for his short game, Koepka admitted to reporters that something about TPC Louisiana at Avondale has already shocked him and his partner.
“Around the greens he’s always had good hands,“ the American said.
“And I think around this place you need good hands, because you can get some of the green lies that are quite difficult.
“Honestly, we were kind of shocked at how firm the greens were at the end of today.
“Felt like they softened up the more we played today, which was quite weird.
“He’s a solid player all around. It’s perfect for this event.“
Koepka responded when asked by one reporter how he believes Lowry’s game will complement his this week at the Zurich Classic.
“Yeah, I think the way Shane drives the ball is really impressive,“ Koepka said.
“I think the game has gotten so much of a bomb it and just hit it far, where I can see what he’s doing.
“I hear him talk on the tee, certain shapes here and there, where he likes to cut it a little bit, draw it on this hole.
“It’s interesting the way they do it, but he’s a fantastic driver of the ball. His iron play is really, really solid, very consistent. Distance control is quite impressive.“
