The 2026 NBA playoffs are here, which means the league has begun to hand out its 2025-26 awards. Hopefully, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made extra room in his trophy case. He'll likely have at least a couple of new pieces of hardware to add to his growing collection.
The NBA announced on Tuesday that Gilgeous-Alexander has won the 2025-26 Clutch Player of the Year award. The other two finalists were Jamal Murray and Anthony Edwards.
Reading the tea leaves, this shouldn't be a shocker. Gilgeous-Alexander led the league in clutch-time scoring at 175 total points. He shot an impressive 51.5% in that scenario. For context, Murray was second at 166 total points.
We'll see if Gilgeous-Alexander can also bring home the more prestigious MVP trophy. He was named a finalist alongside Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. We still don't know when the league will announce a winner, but the forecast predicts him running away with the trophy to win it in back-to-back years.
