To no one's surprise, the Oklahoma City Thunder are marching straight to second round of the NBA Playoffs. They capped off their series sweep of the Phoenix Suns with an insane 131-122 win. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander obviously led the way against the Devin Booker-led squad but that was not the best thing they achieved. The squad notched a win streak that could mean the start of a dynasty.
With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the lineup, the Thunder are now 12-0 in the NBA Playoffs first round, per NBA on NBC. This means that they have swept all the teams they faced in the first round in the past three years. Which teams did they face in that span? It was the New Orleans Pelicans in 2024. the Memphis Grizzlies in 2025, and the Suns are the latest additions for 2026.
Gilgeous-Alexander scored 31 points by knocking down 10 of his 17 field goal attempts against a Suns defense led by Dillon Brooks. He also ran the Thunder offense well and distributed the ball to get eight assists. To cap this NBA Playoffs series off, he record two rebounds and a block.
Perhaps a statistic that does not get talked about, Ajay Mitchell has been a key contributor when he starts for the Thunder. He dropped 22 by knocking down 67% of his three-pointers and shooting 43.75% from the field. Mitchell also shared the offensive load well with Gilgeous-Alexander by dropping six assists. In the past season, the Thunder have won 17 out of 18 games when he joins the starting lineup.
The Thunder are the first team to reach the second round of the NBA Playoffs. A lot of the indicators say that they are going to be a dynasty but it could be too early to tell.
