Sergio Raimundo's coaching journey is a masterclass in player development, built from the ground up. His early career was defined by a crucial specialty: bridging the gap between youth academies and the first team.

“My early years were largely spent working with under-19s and reserve teams,” Raimundo explains. “A big part of my role was preparing players to make that transition successfully, helping them adapt, develop, and ultimately thrive at senior level.” This focus on nurturing raw talent and equipping young players for the professional stage became his foundation.

That foundation was tested and strengthened in vastly different environments. While at storied clubs like Benfica, he operated within a world-class “Champions League level” structure. However, his experience with Lusitana in Senegal presented a unique challenge, requiring him to build a football program from scratch.

“At Lusitana, you had to create everything yourself,” he recalls. The role was all-encompassing, involving logistics, recruitment, and even mentoring players on life skills. This holistic approach paid off spectacularly when his team won a prestigious Primavera-level tournament, becoming the first African side to claim the title—a victory that launched several players into professional contracts.

This blend of high-stakes development and hands-on team building perfectly prepared him for his next steps, including his current role as an assistant manager at Central Coast Mariners and his ambitions for the future. For Raimundo, success has always been about providing players with the right tools to flourish, no matter the setting.
