Gulf Coast, Bishop Verot and ECS advanced to regional softball title games.

It was a night to remember for Southwest Florida softball, as three local teams punched their tickets to the FHSAA regional title games on Tuesday. Gulf Coast, Bishop Verot, and Evangelical Christian School (ECS) each delivered standout performances to keep their championship dreams alive.

Gulf Coast 8, North Fort Myers 0: The Sharks made a statement. Head coach Brian Hodgson knew this young squad—boasting nine freshmen and sophomores—had the potential to be special. On Tuesday, they proved it. Gulf Coast (19-8) cruised past top-seeded North Fort Myers with an 8-0 shutout at Bobbie Dewey Field, securing their first regional final appearance since 2001, when legendary FGCU coach Dave Deiros led the program. "That's awesome; he's a legend so to be able to follow that name, wow, that's pretty cool," Hodgson said.

The Sharks wasted no time, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman Keyah Kamara sparked the rally with an RBI double, and senior catcher Emma Caetano added a run-scoring groundout. "We told them to put up a crooked number in the first inning," Hodgson said. "We had to come into their house and make it known that we're here to play."

That early cushion was all Kamara needed. Despite being just 14 years old, the freshman phenom was nearly untouchable, striking out 16 batters while allowing only two hits and three walks—a remarkable feat against a North team averaging over nine runs per game. "I have to remind myself she's only 14," Hodgson added. "She's still learning these big moments but she's learning it quick."

Kamara also contributed at the plate with three hits and two runs scored, but she had plenty of help. Gulf Coast piled up 11 hits, including four for extra bases. Caetano went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI, senior outfielder Nelinka Lambcke added two hits and two runs, and sophomore first baseman Kadi Hodgson crushed an RBI double. If the Sharks can keep pairing that kind of offensive firepower with Kamara's dominance on the mound, they'll be a tough out in the regional final.
