Seattle Kraken say assistant coach Jessica Campbell will not return next season

General manager Jason Botterill said Jessica Campbell’s contract is expiring and she expressed a desire to explore other roles around the league.

The Seattle Kraken have announced that assistant coach Jessica Campbell, who made history as the first woman to serve as an on-bench assistant coach in NHL history, will not return for the upcoming season.

General manager Jason Botterill explained that Campbell's contract is expiring, and she has expressed interest in pursuing other opportunities across the league. "We support her in this process," Botterill stated. "Jessica has been an important member of our coaching staff for the past four years, demonstrating deep knowledge and a unique ability to connect with and develop players. We respect her decision and believe strongly in her as a coach in this league."

Campbell's journey with the Kraken organization began in the American Hockey League, where she worked alongside Dan Bylsma with the Coachella Valley Firebirds. When Bylsma was promoted to become Seattle's second head coach in 2024, Campbell moved up with him. She remained on staff even after Bylsma was let go a year later and replaced by Lane Lambert.

During her time with the Firebirds, the team made back-to-back appearances in the Calder Cup Finals, showcasing her ability to develop talent at the highest minor league level. However, the Kraken have struggled to replicate that success, missing the playoffs in each of the last two seasons and qualifying for the postseason just once since their debut in 2021-22.

As Campbell explores new challenges, her impact on the game—both as a trailblazer and a skilled coach—remains undeniable. For fans looking to gear up for the next chapter in Seattle hockey, now is the perfect time to refresh your Kraken collection with jerseys, hoodies, and hats that celebrate the team's journey.
