This past Saturday, the Portsmouth High School girls track team put on a stellar performance at the Seacoast Freshmen/Sophomore meet held at Exeter High School, securing second place overall. Exeter claimed the top spot with a commanding team score of 171, while Portsmouth followed closely with 113.5 points. The Clippers showed remarkable depth and talent across multiple events.
Sophomore standout Leina Cory was a force to be reckoned with, winning both the 100-meter dash (12.82 seconds) and the 400-meter run (61.12 seconds). She also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team—comprising Joey Hofstra, Daisy Baker, and Campbell Parrott—to a first-place finish with a time of 4:25.86. Evelyn Avery added to the team's success by taking the 200-meter dash in 28.2 seconds, while Alona Noble dominated the discus with a throw of 71 feet, 5 inches.
On the boys' side, Portsmouth placed fifth with 48 points. Stephen Whistler cleared 9 feet, 7 inches to win the pole vault, and Covey Getman leaped to victory in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 7 inches. These performances highlight the growing strength of Portsmouth's track program.
In baseball action, York's Orrin Culp-Dechan smashed his first career home run, and Dom Grover delivered an RBI single in a Class B South loss to Cape Elizabeth. Freshman Dylan Olsson stole second and scored on Grover's single to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning, but Finn Connelly's three-run homer in the seventh sealed the win for Cape Elizabeth.
Over in girls lacrosse, Winnacunnet's junior McKinley Fowler erupted for four goals and two assists, leading the Division II Warriors to a 6-2 record with a victory over Division I Bedford. Ari Rizzo also netted four goals, while Elle Emery and Hannah Curtin each contributed a goal and an assist. Goalie Benten Lyford made eight saves to anchor the defense.
Traip Academy's Sam Latchaw tallied four goals in a Class C win, supported by Maddy Rohan, Shea Johnson, Harper Malmquist, and Lucy Gingras—each with two goals. Lucy Bolanos and Keira Hagen also found the back of the net, and goalie Maddy Guay recorded seven saves.
In boys lacrosse, Marshwood's Rogan Boisvert was unstoppable with six goals and two assists, powering the Class B Hawks to a 6-1 record with a win over Class A Noble. Hayden Demeroto and Robert Williams each scored three goals, while Liam Haggerty, Chad Anderson, and Drake Anderson added two apiece. Damien Gilmore chipped in with a goal and an assist.
