SDFC’s winless run turned into a losing streak, as they fell for a third straight MLS match with a 4–2 defeat on the road at America First Field on Saturday night.

The road trip couldn't have started worse for San Diego FC. Their search for a win turned into a deepening crisis Saturday night, as a 4-2 defeat to Real Salt Lake at America First Field extended their losing streak to three consecutive MLS matches.

Entering Matchday 8, SDFC was already desperate to snap a four-game league winless run. Their recent struggles have been compounded by a shocking disciplinary trend: four straight red cards in those four matches, forcing the backline into constant rotation and leaving them shorthanded during critical moments.

This defensive fragility was exposed almost immediately in Sandy. In a disastrous opening six minutes, Real Salt Lake struck twice. First, a costly turnover by goalkeeper Duran Ferree was pounced on by Diego Luna for a simple finish. Just sixty seconds later, Luna turned provider, floating a cross to the back post for Sergi Solans to head home, putting SDFC in a 2-0 hole before many fans had settled in.

To their credit, the Chrome & Azul showed a flash of fight. A swift 14th-minute counterattack saw Lewis Morgan find Marcus Ingvartsen in the box, and the Danish forward coolly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1.

However, any momentum was short-lived. Real Salt Lake restored their two-goal cushion before halftime and added a fourth in the second half to seal the comprehensive victory. For SDFC, the issues are clear: defensive mistakes and ill-discipline are proving far too costly. As this road trip continues, finding stability at the back will be the first step toward stopping this skid.
