Scotland prop Alec Hepburn brings "invaluable" experience to Edinburgh after agreeing to join on a two-year contract, says head coach Sean Everitt. Hepburn, 33, will arrive in the summer from fellow URC side Scarlets. The Australia-born loosehead spent a decade with Exeter Chiefs, winning the Premiership and Champions Cup double in 2020, before a two-year stint with Scarlets.

Edinburgh Rugby has secured a major boost ahead of next season, with Scotland prop Alec Hepburn agreeing to a two-year deal that head coach Sean Everitt believes brings "invaluable" experience to the squad.

The 33-year-old loosehead will make the move from fellow United Rugby Championship side Scarlets this summer, adding a wealth of top-tier pedigree to Edinburgh's front row. Born in Australia but now a six-cap Scotland international, Hepburn is no stranger to the biggest stages in the sport.

Having spent a decade with Exeter Chiefs, the prop was part of the club's historic 2020 double, lifting both the Premiership and Champions Cup titles. After two seasons with the Scarlets, he now brings that winning mentality to the Scottish capital.

"We're really pleased to be adding a player of Alec's calibre to our squad," Everitt said. "He's a seasoned international loosehead who has operated at the highest level throughout his career—Champions Cup finals, Premiership titles, Six Nations. That kind of experience and knowledge is invaluable in any group."

Everitt highlighted the broader impact Hepburn will have, noting that his arrival "strengthens the depth we have in an important position and adds genuine competition for places, which can only drive standards higher." The coach also pointed to the mentoring value for younger players: "Having someone of his background in our changing room will also be hugely beneficial for the younger props coming through. That blend of quality and leadership is exactly what we're looking for as we continue to build."

Hepburn becomes the fourth new signing in Edinburgh's ongoing squad rebuild, joining backs Louie Chapman, Riley Higgins, and Geordie Gwynn for next season. For a team looking to climb the URC standings and make an impact in Europe, this addition could be a game-changer.

"I'm very excited to be joining Edinburgh," Hepburn said. "It's a club with great depth and talent within the squad to push very high in all competitions. It's nice to know a few of the guys already. Getting the chance to work week in and week out with them will hopefully bring the best out of me and prove myself in a different environment."

For fans and players alike, Hepburn's arrival signals Edinburgh's ambition—and a fresh chapter for a prop who's proven he can deliver when it matters most.
