Paul Scholes has thrown a bit of cold water on the Michael Carrick hype at Manchester United, pointing out that despite the interim boss's impressive run, there are still some big "issues" to sort out.

Carrick has been on a tear since stepping in for Ruben Amorim, winning 10 of his 14 matches and steering the Red Devils into the Champions League. United have actually topped the Premier League form table since his appointment, with wins over every other top-four side plus Chelsea. That kind of form has made Carrick the clear frontrunner for the permanent job.

But Scholes, who knows a thing or two about midfield mastery, isn't convinced the problems are solved. The United legend warned that the team's openness in midfield is still a major concern, and he reckons next season—if Carrick stays on—will be the real test.

"The only thing he has really done is play Kobbie Mainoo and play people in the right positions," Scholes told The Overlap. "What we've seen from the other managers, the team were all over the place. There was a system that they had NO idea how to play."

Scholes pointed to United's four quality forwards as a safety net, but he's worried about the spine of the team. "They've got four good forwards that get you out of a lot of trouble at times. And I still see issues right through the middle of the pitch. Every time there's a problem with United, it's right through the middle of the pitch."

He highlighted a specific goal—the one from Szoboszlai—as a recurring problem. "Every goal they concede seems to be like that. Now, I don't think we'll know about Michael until we get to November, December..."

It's a reminder that while Carrick has steadied the ship, the real work might be just beginning. For United fans eyeing that next kit drop or training gear upgrade, the message is clear: the team's foundation still needs some reinforcing before they can truly challenge at the top.
