What a weekend for Somerset baseball! The Golden Eagles turned up the heat in the final innings, scoring all nine runs in the last three frames to secure a commanding 9-4 victory over Mishawaka Marian in Indiana.
Colt Hagans was the offensive star, racking up two hits and three RBIs to lead the charge. Caden Stephens also contributed two hits and crossed the plate three times, while Ashton Harmon drove in three runs and Josh Wilmotte added two RBIs. On the mound, Garret Reese was dominant, striking out six batters over six innings to keep the Knights at bay. Mishawaka Marian's Brady Nitz managed a double and an RBI in a losing effort.
Switching to softball, Westmont Hilltop powered past Central with an 8-4 victory at home. Kylie Sweeney was a force at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Bella Kist and Kelsie Muto each drove in two runs, with Kist also going deep and Muto smacking a triple. Sarah Gibbons added a double, while Abby Rozich was stellar in the circle, striking out nine batters over 6 1/3 innings.
Central's Kailyn Gahagan put up a fight, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and two RBIs. Hailey Fries also doubled and drove in a run, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Hilltoppers' balanced attack.
