With some starts missing due to injuries, others got wins during the first day of the Westchester Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Scarsdale has long been known as a distance-running powerhouse, but at the Westchester County Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Raiders proved they can sprint with the best. On the first day of competition at Somers High School, Scarsdale claimed victory in the premier event—the 100-meter dash—for both the boys and girls teams, signaling a new chapter for the program.

In the boys' 100 meters, Scarsdale's Labrowne Brown crossed the finish line first, showcasing explosive speed and leaving no doubt about the Raiders' growing versatility. On the girls' side, Alice Nicassio followed suit, dominating the field to bring home the title. These wins highlight a shift in Scarsdale's track identity, blending their traditional endurance strength with newfound sprinting prowess.

The day also featured a heartwarming family moment in the hurdles. New Rochelle's Alivia Smith took first place in the girls hurdles, with her twin sister Alexis finishing a close second. The Smith twins went 1-2, adding a personal touch to an already competitive field.

Other standout performances included Iona's Francesko Gjuraj, who soared to victory in the boys pole vault, and a host of athletes who stepped up despite several key competitors sidelined by injuries. With the second day still ahead, the championship promises more thrilling races and field events as Westchester's best continue to battle for county supremacy.
