The Ottawa Charge have evened the score. In a thrilling Game 2 showdown at the Tsongas Center on Saturday night, Ottawa bounced back from a narrow Game 1 loss to defeat the Boston Fleet 3-1, tying the best-of-five series at 1-1. After falling 2-1 on Thursday, the Charge came out firing, determined to seize momentum on the road.
Goaltender Gwyneth Philips was the star of the night, turning aside 30 shots to keep the Fleet at bay. Her steady presence between the pipes gave Ottawa the confidence to build an early lead. The scoring started late in the first period, when defenseman Ronja Savolainen unleashed a wrist shot from just inside the blue line that slipped past Boston netminder Aerin Frankel with 6:44 left on the clock.
The Charge doubled their advantage early in the second period. At the 1:52 mark, Fanuza Kadirova blasted a one-timer from the right circle, beating Frankel glove side for a highlight-reel goal that made it 2-0. Ottawa’s aggressive forecheck and crisp passing kept the Fleet on their heels for much of the middle frame.
Boston refused to go quietly. With just 10 seconds remaining in the second period, Fleet forward Keller sparked life into the home crowd. Racing into the zone, she controlled a loose puck inside the left circle and flicked a shot off the back post and into the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1 heading into the final period.
Despite a furious push from the Fleet in the third, Philips stood tall, and Ottawa’s defense tightened up. With Boston pressing for the equalizer and pulling Frankel for an extra attacker, Gabbie Hughes sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, capping the scoring at 3-1.
The series now shifts to Ottawa for Game 3, where the Charge will look to take the lead on home ice. For fans of the game, this playoff clash is proving to be a battle of grit, skill, and heart—and it’s only just beginning.
