Former Notre Dame football safety Jalen Stroman is officially an NFL rookie after the San Francisco 49ers signed him as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft.

Here's what Stroman brings to the 49ers, based on his career with Virginia Tech and the Irish.

A Virginia Tech graduate transfer with an older brother (Greg) who played parts of six seasons in the NFL from 2018-24, Jalen Stroman played a reserve role behind breakout star Tae Johnson in his lone season at Notre Dame. Left uninvited to the combine, Stroman ran just a 4.69 40 at Notre Dame’s Pro Day with a vertical leap of 36 inches.

On Senior Day against Syracuse, Stroman enjoyed a career game that included a 44-yard interception return for a touchdown and a blocked punt that fellow safety Luke Talich returned for another early score in a 70-7 romp. Stroman also made nine tackles while playing 57 defensive snaps in the season-opening loss at Miami before gradually losing ground to a rising star in Johnson.

Officially measured at 6-foot and 203 pounds, Stroman tied for sixth on the team with 37 combined tackles in 2025. He finished the year with 335 defensive snaps after playing just 24 snaps in his final season with the Hokies due to a broken clavicle.
