Boston Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy said that the team is going to give Jason Varitek 'all the time he needs' to make a decision.

The Boston Red Sox are giving legendary catcher Jason Varitek all the time he needs to decide his future with the organization, according to team president and CEO Sam Kennedy.

In a recent interview with NESN's Tom Caron, Kennedy emphasized the deep respect the franchise holds for Varitek, a Red Sox Hall of Famer and one of the most iconic figures in team history. "We're gonna give him all the time he needs to make a decision," Kennedy stated. "He's got a very bright future in the game, and hopefully it'll be here with the Red Sox for the long term."

This comes nearly three weeks after the Red Sox made sweeping changes, firing manager Alex Cora and dismissing several coaches. Varitek, who had been serving as the team's game planning and run prevention coach, was reassigned to a new role within the organization amid the shakeup.

The uncertainty around Varitek's future has been a hot topic among fans, but chief baseball officer Craig Breslow previously assured that the team told Varitek there is "a place in this organization for him for as long as he wants it." Kennedy's comments reinforce that sentiment, giving the 54-year-old the space to weigh his options.

Varitek is no stranger to the Red Sox legacy. He spent his entire 15-year playing career in Boston, captaining the team from 2005 to 2011 and winning two World Series championships. After retiring as a player in March 2012, he returned to the dugout as a coach in 2021.

Whether Varitek chooses to continue in a coaching capacity or take on a different role, one thing is clear: the Red Sox are eager to keep him in the family. As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on this beloved captain's next move.
