Mickey Loomis made a rare appearance on Mad Dog Sports Radio with host Adam Schein for Sirius XM after the 2026 NFL Draft, but the New Orleans Saints general manager didn't reveal much information. He was asked about his team's moves in the draft and free agency pickups like veteran running back Travis Etienne Jr., as well as the longtime starter Alvin Kamara.

Because the Saints notably tweaked Kamara's contract earlier this offseason to make trading or releasing him easier after June 1, there's been a lot of speculation that this could be the end of the road for him. For his part, Loomis demurred on whether or not Etienne and Kamara can share the field.

"I think we're still trying to work through that, um, to see where we're at roster-wise. And look there's a couple of areas there that we've got to, you know, got to work through. So I'd rather not comment on it right now but it's certainly an exciting possibility," Loomis said.

Schein pressed the issue, asking Loomis what the relationship has been like between Kamara and Loomis in the front office, as well as whether other teams have come calling about a potential trade for the franchise's leading rusher.

Loomis replied: "I'd rather keep that to myself at this point, Adam, it's a good question, but I think those are private conversations, at least at this point."

You almost wonder why Loomis even bothered to go on the show if he wasn't going to answer Schein's questions. But he's got an angle here; the NFL's longest-tenured general manager wouldn't waste his time on this if he had nothing to gain from it. By keeping his cards close to his vest, Loomis isn't giving away leverage by publicly sharing whether or not he sees Kamara on the team this year. If another team wants to trade for him, they'll need to present an offer Loomis can't refuse. If Kamara wants to stay on New Orleans in 2026, he may have to take a pay cut. There's some value in not tipping your hand one way or another. But at the same time, how hard can it be to say "yes" or "no?"
