Rutgers wrestling has accepted an invitation to the second-ever National Duels Invitational according to Pat Mineo of the Wrestling Room. The National Duels Invitational is a tournament sponsored by Paycom that will see several top Division 1 programs from around the country fly to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to compete against each other for a cash prize.
Each team that participates in the event will receive $20,ooo for attending, with additional awards available based on the team’s performance. The event features a 16-team bracket, with the bottom 8 teams receiving no bonuses. Teams that place within the 6th-8th range will earn a cash reward ranging from $20,000-$40,000. 4th and 5th place will get $100,000 each, while 2nd and 3rd will get $175,000. The winner of the entire tournament will receive $250,000. All teams competing will have the opportunity to compete for $50,000 in team takedown bonuses.
Other programs that have accepted invites to the tournament so far are Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Wyoming. Oklahoma State will serve as the host school, as the event will take place in the BOK Center in Tulsa.
This tournament draws a lot of similarities to the Players’ Era Tournament that the Rutgers Men’s Basketball team played in the last two seasons, as both are meant to be tournaments where college teams can compete for cash prizes.
