All five Rutgers golfers competed in every round—the only team in the conference to do so—and each finished within the top 40 individual players. Sophomore Bennett Espenshade led the charge with a stunning 4-under par 66 in the final round, marking Rutgers' lowest round of the day. His late push not only propelled him into the top 10 individually but also gave the team the momentum it needed to climb the leaderboard. Senior Luke Koenig and sophomore Argyle Downes each contributed rounds of 1-over par 71, while freshman Lucas Politano added an even-par 70. Graduate student Jeffrey Zatorski rounded out the lineup with a 4-over par 74. Politano and Koenig tied for 23rd place at +4, while Downes and Zatorski tied for 40th at +7.

UCLA ultimately claimed the team title, holding off Illinois in a thrilling final round. But for Rutgers, this finish signals a bright future—especially with Chris Gotterup representing the program at the professional level and so many young golfers already making their mark.

The Scarlet Knights now await the NCAA men's golf Division I tournament selection show on May 6th at 2 p.m., where they'll learn if they've earned one of 81 spots in the national tournament. Given this historic performance and the team's upward trajectory, there's plenty of reason for optimism in Piscataway.
