For the fifth straight year, a former Rutgers player heard their name at the NFL Draft.
Athan Kaliakmanis became the third quarterback in program history to be drafted after finishing their career as a Scarlet Knight, getting taken 223rd overall by the Washington Commanders in the seventh round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Rutgers has tied a program record for consecutive years with at least one player drafted (1981-85), and it has a good chance of breaking it next spring if star wide receiver KJ Duff enters the draft pool following this fall.
This year, Kaliakmanis was the lone Rutgers player to get drafted, but he will not be the only one to sign with an NFL team on Saturday.
