Four months after he said he would play in the 2026 NFL season, Russell Wilson is now considering taking a TV job.

Russell Wilson, the veteran quarterback who just four months ago declared he would suit up for the 2026 NFL season, is now reportedly considering a surprising pivot to the broadcast booth. The 37-year-old signal-caller is "in deep discussions to go into television," according to a report from The Athletic's Andrew Marchand, a move that would likely mark the end of his 14-year NFL playing career.

Wilson's change of heart comes after he told ESPN in January, "I'm not blinking. I know what I'm capable of." Now, CBS has emerged as the frontrunner to land Wilson for its iconic Sunday pregame show, "The NFL Today," where he would replace Matt Ryan, who recently left to join the Atlanta Falcons' front office.

Despite the television talks, Wilson hasn't completely closed the door on playing. He recently took a free agent visit with the New York Jets, keeping the option alive. But for a player who has already built a Hall of Fame-caliber résumé—a 10-time Pro Bowler, a Super Bowl champion, and a legend in Seattle—a move to the booth would be a natural next chapter.

Wilson's career numbers tell the story of a true dual-threat quarterback: 46,966 passing yards and 353 touchdowns through the air, plus 5,568 rushing yards and 31 scores on the ground. He spent the majority of his prime with the Seattle Seahawks, posting a stellar 104-53-1 record as a starter before being traded to the Denver Broncos. After a rocky stint in Denver (11-19 record), Wilson was cut in 2024 and later played for the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) and New York Giants (0-3).

If Wilson does hang up his cleats, he'll leave the game as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks of his era. But for now, fans are left wondering: will the next "Russell Wilson" we see be in cleats or a suit on CBS?
