Rory McIlroy is living every golfer's dream—and then some. The 37-year-old superstar has been spotted on the big screen alongside Hollywood's biggest names, delivering a "Saved by the Bell" punchline in Adam Sandler's "Happy Gilmore 2" and even landing a cameo for his wife in the recent Anne Hathaway film "The Devil Wears Prada 2." But while he's been rubbing shoulders with Tinseltown's elite, McIlroy has also been making history on the fairways.
There's something about sequels that suits McIlroy perfectly. After joining the legendary ranks of Tiger Woods, Nick Faldo, and Jack Nicklaus as the only repeat winners of the Masters, he's now donned two green jackets—a feat that cements his place among golf's immortals. And his off-course life is just as impressive: from schmoozing with the Kelce brothers on their podcast to dining at a White House state dinner with President Donald Trump and King Charles III, McIlroy is proving that balance is key.
"Sometimes you have to enjoy the perks," McIlroy said with a knowing smile. "Because I know that isn't going to last forever."
But don't think all this Hollywood glamour has distracted him from the game. Ahead of this weekend's PGA Championship, McIlroy has been putting in the work. He squeezed in practice rounds at Aronimink Golf Club near Philadelphia, a course he first played at the 2018 BMW Championship. For McIlroy, early visits to unfamiliar courses can be a game-changer.
"I definitely think courses we don't see very often—whether it's here, Shinnecock, or Frisco—it certainly has benefited me over the years," McIlroy explained. "I remember the first time I did it for a major championship was Congressional in 2011, on the back of a recommendation from Jack Nicklaus. So, it's helped me over the years."
That advice paid off big time: McIlroy won the 2011 U.S. Open by a staggering eight strokes. Now, with two PGA Championship titles already under his belt (2012 and 2014), he's gunning for another major victory—and proving that whether he's on the red carpet or the green, Rory McIlroy knows how to deliver a winning performance.
