Rocky Mountain tennis star Emma Praver is serving up some serious heat this spring, and her dominant performance on the court has earned her Blue FCU's Girls Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 27 to May 2.
The Lobos' junior No. 1 singles player captured the Class 5A Region 4 title with a commanding display of power and precision. Praver cruised through the semifinals against Chatfield's Emma Rosca with a flawless 6-0, 6-1 victory, setting the tone for an unforgettable championship match.
In the finals, Praver came out firing, blanking Arapahoe's Alene Dewitt 6-0 in the first set. But Dewitt refused to back down, rallying to win the second set and forcing a decisive third. Showing the composure of a seasoned champion, Praver fought back to take the final set 6-3, securing the regional title and proving why she's one of Colorado's top talents.
Praver's leadership was instrumental in helping Rocky Mountain sweep all seven lines at their home regional—held at the CSU tennis courts—marking the third consecutive year the Lobos have sent a full roster to the state tournament. This season marks Praver's third straight qualification for the Colorado Class 5A state championship, a testament to her consistency and relentless work ethic.
Praver is the fourth tennis player to earn Blue FCU Athlete of the Week honors this school year, joining an elite group that includes Fossil Ridge's Irene Cobos, Fort Collins' Scarlett Marske, and Poudre's Owen Addington. She secured the award with 40.6% of the vote in a tight race, edging out Liberty Common soccer standout Miriam Huffsmith (38.9%) and four other impressive nominees.
