The Houston Rockets' 2025-26 season ended with a thud, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in a decisive 98-78 Game 6 loss. While the series was more competitive than many expected, the early exit has already sparked speculation about major roster changes—and Kevin Durant's future in Houston is at the center of it all.
Durant, who joined the Rockets with championship aspirations, now finds himself at the heart of offseason trade rumors. According to Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey, a blockbuster deal could send the future Hall of Famer to the Miami Heat in exchange for guard Tyler Herro and forward Nikola Jovic.
"Durant may be in the twilight of his career, but he obviously still has the name value of a star and generally plays like one too," Bailey wrote. "He's undoubtedly more consistent (and lately, more available) than Tyler Herro. And inside-out actions with he and Bam Adebayo could give the Miami Heat a more dynamic attack than they've had in years."
For the Rockets, acquiring Herro would add a proven scorer to their backcourt. The 6-foot-5 guard has averaged at least 20 points, five assists, and two three-pointers in each of the last five seasons. Pairing him with young talents like Reed Sheppard and veteran Fred VanVleet could give Houston a balanced, high-scoring attack.
Herro, like Durant, has been a regular fixture in trade rumors. He helped lead the Heat to two NBA Finals appearances, but Miami has struggled recently—getting swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in last year's playoffs and missing the postseason entirely the year before. A drastic shakeup might be exactly what the three-time champions need, and Herro would likely be the centerpiece of any major deal.
While Herro isn't on Durant's level offensively, his youth and shot-making ability could make him a better long-term fit for a Rockets team looking to build around its emerging core. Whether this trade becomes reality or remains a rumor, one thing is clear: Houston's offseason is just getting started.
