Robin van Persie has thrown his full support behind Feyenoord rising star Givairo Read, tipping the 19-year-old right-back for a potential summer move to either Manchester City or Bayern Munich.

The Dutch tactician, who knows Read from their time together in the club's youth setup, offered a glowing assessment of the youngster's character and readiness for a top-tier transfer. "Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days," van Persie told reporters ahead of Feyenoord's recent 2-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard.

"As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing. He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi. I think that is really great to see."

Manchester City have been tracking Read since November 2025, when club officials reportedly traveled to the Netherlands for a firsthand look at the Netherlands U21 international. Now, with both City and Bayern Munich showing serious interest, Feyenoord's technical director Dennis te Kloese is reportedly targeting a club-record sale north of €32 million.

Read joined Feyenoord on a free transfer in July 2023 and has since made 51 appearances for the club. While an injury-interrupted season limited him to just 13 Eredivisie appearances this term—hamstring problems struck in both November 2025 and January—his potential remains undeniable.

"As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player," van Persie added. "I certainly think he can make that step."

For City, who are looking to bolster their defensive depth this summer, Read represents an intriguing long-term investment. And with van Persie's ringing endorsement, the young Dutchman's stock is only set to rise as the transfer window approaches.
