Whatever the Lakers do with their roster, it will be a 'collaborative process' with Luka Dončić'.

The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into an offseason full of big decisions, and general manager Rob Pelinka made it clear on Tuesday: the team wants LeBron James and Austin Reaves back in purple and gold.

Speaking just a day after the Lakers were swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the playoffs, Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick addressed the future of the franchise. And at the center of it all? Luka Dončić.

"The archetype of the roster that we want is going to be retrofitted around Luka and the things he needs," Pelinka said. "Clearly he's that leader and player for the future that we want to build the right way around."

Dončić's return is a given—he's entering the first year of a three-year, $160.4 million contract. But how the Lakers build around him is the real question. Pelinka emphasized that roster decisions will be a "collaborative process" with the superstar guard.

"It's not, hey, I want x, y and z," Pelinka explained. "We're in constant communication with him and his team. ... We're gonna get together, I think on Friday or Saturday. Ongoing dialogue. He's an incredible partner."

Don't expect Dončić to be handed the keys to the front office, though. Pelinka was quick to clarify that the Slovenian star respects the roles of the coaching staff and management.

"He also does it in a way where he wants to do his job great and he wants to let JJ do his job great and let me do my job great," Pelinka added.

As for the supporting cast, Pelinka expressed a strong desire to keep the core intact. LeBron James, now 41, and Austin Reaves both played key roles in helping the Lakers secure the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference this season. After Monday's season-ending loss, James hinted he might have played his final game with the Lakers, but Pelinka's message was clear: the franchise would "love to have LeBron back."

Reaves, who has blossomed into a reliable two-way guard, also wants to return. Keeping the trio of Dončić, James, and Reaves together would give the Lakers a potent mix of veteran leadership and rising star power.

For Lakers fans, the offseason just got a lot more interesting. With Luka at the helm and roster moves on the horizon, the next chapter in Los Angeles is shaping up to be a collaborative—and potentially championship-caliber—rebuild.
