When you think of the New England Patriots dynasty, two names come to mind as a package deal: Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski. Their bond, forged on the gridiron and beyond, is the stuff of legend. So it only makes sense that their Hall of Fame honors would come as a matching set.
Last year, Edelman was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. Now, it's Gronkowski's turn to take his rightful place alongside his longtime teammate. And true to form, the big tight end couldn't resist a playful jab at his friend's expense.
"Jules just gave me a little voicemail, text message thing. He loves those. He lives and dies for them. And I usually read them, but I listened to this one," Gronkowski shared with reporters. "He congratulated me, big time. And it was just really cool."
In true Gronk fashion, he turned the moment into a trip down memory lane. He recalled a night back in 2010, before his rookie season, when the two were at a nightclub called "Splash." There, he was caught swiping shrimp off a tray when the waitress wasn't looking—a classic glimpse into the playful dynamic that defined their partnership.
"Two idiots back in 2010, now going back-to-back into the Patriots Hall of Fame—both of us, first-round inductees," Gronkowski added with a grin. "It was just cool to hear from Julian, and he also just gave me props for just being the player that I was, and he just said, 'Hey, it was a complete honor to play with a complete football player, a guy that brought it every single day.'"
But Gronk couldn't resist the chance to rib his buddy one more time: "So, Julian got in last year, and I wanted to copy him."
For fans of the Patriots dynasty, this back-to-back Hall of Fame induction is a fitting tribute to two players who defined an era. And for those who love a good sports story, it's a reminder that even the greatest champions never forget where they came from—or the stolen shrimp along the way.
